Gaming Chair

Vertagear launched the new 800 series gaming chair in November 2023. I designed not only the products but also the manual and packaging. I participated in creating marketing content using a 3D model.

New Package and Manual Design

Clean & Premium look

I requested a change in the paper material to achieve a more premium appearance. The previous glossy and thin paper conveyed a cheap impression. After testing several options, I selected an off-white matte 80 gsm paper to enhance the premium look of our new products.

Detailed Illustration

I created an illustration using a detailed 3D model to help users easily understand the assembly process and the necessary precautions. We thoroughly checked to ensure that each step provided a clear description for installing the chair. The goal is for one person to be able to assemble the chair without any confusion.

Vertagear launched the new 800 series gaming chair in November 2023. I was involved in designing not only the products but also the manual and packaging. My goal was to create a more premium impression and reinforce the brand's identity through both the manual and the packaging. Additionally, I contributed to the creation of marketing content using a 3D model.

Vertagear Product

The lumbar support and seat design of Vertagear gaming chairs are too flat for extended sitting. One of the main issues is that the foam is quite firm, which can be uncomfortable over time. Additionally, the winged design of the lumbar support and seat restricts natural movement, making it difficult for users to shift positions while gaming. Finally, there are numerous gaps between the components, which create opportunities for dust and crumbs to accumulate inside the chair.

Customer

On average, people spend 9.8 hours a week gaming on PC*. Considering the use of PCs for work and media consumption, individuals tend to sit for long hours.

Competitor

Herman Miller has launched a gaming chair in collaboration with Logitech, while Steelcase has introduced its own line of gaming chairs. Major brands in the ergonomic office chair sector are now entering the gaming chair market. Unfortunately, many cheap and copycat gaming chairs are being imported from factories in China. As a result, previous Vertagear products are losing their competitive edge. To address this issue, we have decided to elevate the quality of our chairs.

What we will change

The current flat and firm lumbar support causes users to suffer from back pain after prolonged use. We should create an ergonomic lumbar shape and use comfortable materials for the new model.

Everyone has a different back shape and hip size. When using a PC, nobody sits still. We should consider new lumbar support and seating options to adjust comfort based on the user's body type and movement.

Odor and harmful microbes are caused by non-breathable leather. We have adopted coffee ground fiber in some of our products. However, we decided to use this fiber for all 800 models.

The current seat design is uncomfortable due to the two side wings. We have created a wide, waterfall-style seat design that eliminates any obstacles along the thighs. This design will be implemented universally across all models. Additionally, the lumbar support has been widened for improved comfort.

Engineering Ergonomic Features

ContourMax™ Lumbar

Flexible yet strong, four TPEE modules conform to the user's back shape.

I designed four modules using SolidWorks and created test samples printed by a laser printer. Based on our design and testing, the factory began applying the four modules to a metal frame. After several rounds of feedback, the final structure was confirmed.

New Design & Color Material Finish

for improved style and comfort

To keep up with evolving technologies, we updated the chair design while preserving its original shape. Our goal was to give it a fresh, modern look by introducing new seam lines and decorative details. Previously, the color options were limited to simple shades like blue, red, purple, and green. This time, we developed an entirely new color palette. After exploring various options, we selected Midnight Blue, Midnight Green, Midnight Purple, and Burgundy Red to further enhance the product’s distinctive character.

After receiving the first mock-up, I provided detailed guidelines to the factory in China to finalize the intended design. This involved several rounds of communication. There is a language barrier between our office in the U.S. and the factory, so the most effective way to convey our intentions is to use visual samples.
